Choral Composition Competition in Celebration of John Clare
a choral composition competition
In 2014, for the 150th anniversary of Clare's death, composers were invited to submit a brand new choral work to mark the sesquicentennial anniversary of the death of the poet John Clare, who penned many of his poems on the Portico of All Saints' Church, Northampton. There was a single prize awarded of £1,000, and a premiere performance to be given by the highly-acclaimed choirs of All Saints' Church. The competition has been supported by the John Clare Society.
We are very pleased to announce that the winner was Ivan Bozicevic from Croatia. You can learn more about him at http://free-st.t-com.hr/Ivan-Bozicevic/resume/index.html.
With a glorious eye
God looks on nature with a glorious eye
And blesses all creation with the sun
Its drapery of green and brown earth ocean lie
In morning as Creation just begun
That saffron east foretells the rising sun
And who can look upon that majesty
Of light brightness and splendour nor feel won
With love of him whose bright all seeing eye
Feeds the days light with Immortality.
